REPLENISHMENT MANAGEMENT

Replenishment

Although it is defined that the picking process is the one that can commit the most resources, picking usually requires a correct replenishment management, in order to optimize picking tasks and even internal and external product management, a correct replenishment management is essential.

Processes covered

There are many systems (ERP, WMS) that can plan replenishment tasks, but it is just as important that the execution of these orders is carried out in a timely manner. That is, they must be executed accurately, otherwise they can cause many errors and delays downstream in the supply chain or in the company’s processes.

At Tech id we study the processes in your warehouse to jointly define the best strategy to ensure that your replenishment process is optimal. These strategies must be supported by the right data capture technology for your environment and product, and finally, ensure that the integration with your company’s corporate systems is done in a timely manner.

Replenishment Systems

Current WMS or WMS systems are the systems in charge of managing inventory and keeping it alive, although some companies manage it with their ERP, or in retail stores the POS or cash register system. In all cases we can call them Corporate Systems or management systems.

Whatever your corporate warehouse management system is, it often requires complementary systems that help you to convert the actual physical movements into data, which is why it is essential to integrate technology into your management and control systems.

It is vital to be able to execute planned orders and integrate the information into the information systems in an agile and accurate manner. Depending on the environment, product and costs, it is possible to apply one technology or another, but always integrated and as automated as possible.

There are different alternatives and technologies to perform this task efficiently and effectively. Either by working in concatenation with other processes to keep the inventory updated in a permanent way (during picking, for example) or by performing a specific and independent inventory task once every “x” time.

So there is the conventional way of inventory using handheld scanners, but the process must be properly designed to be functional for the operator as the integration with the corporate system.

It is also possible to work in the perpetual inventory at the time of picking, at the time of inputs and outputs, performing A, B, C, etc. counts. Thus optimizing user movements by executing several tasks at the same time (picking and inventory, for example).

Finally, there are innovative solutions that allow mass automated reading without leaving the forklift truck and connected to corporate systems (VMS/WMS). These solutions can work with RFID or intelligent machine vision systems.

Benefits of Replenishment Systems

  • Agility in processes and tasks

The replenishment process is the trigger for other tasks and processes, therefore, it is defined as a bottleneck. Optimizing and ensuring replenishment is critical for the following tasks.

  • Optimizes the planning of the rest of the processes

The digitization of the execution of processes in real time in your management systems or corporate systems offers the possibility of reviewing the planning and prioritization of the tasks to be performed based on reality and not on an initial planning.

  • Greater security in business management and decision making.

The automated digitization in real time of the information generated by the process itself ensures that this information is complete and accurate, in addition to having it available in the appropriate systems, whether it is a WMS or an ERP. This makes it possible to make executive or strategic decisions in a secure way, offering the possibility of working with dashboards, KPi's, etc.

  • Improve inventory quality

Ensuring the quality of the preparation also guarantees the status of your stock and inventory, allowing you to manage it more efficiently.
